My Story in Color
Artist Statement
I am an artist working across a range of mediums, guided by color, light, and line. My style is layered, expressive, and impressionistic over exact realism, often revealing the beauty found in landscapes, animals, and the natural world. While my work often reflects nature, I am not confined to any single subject, allowing each piece to evolve intuitively through exploration. I paint what captures my attention and sparks inspiration. While some paintings carry symbolic meaning, others celebrate beauty in its simplest form. My work invites viewers to look closer, travel deeper, experience the world through a more colorful lens, and rediscover the extraordinary in what surrounds us.
Krista has applied the following quote through the many adventures she has been on in her life:
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
~Vincent Van Gogh
Bio
Krista Nelson is an Eastern Washington artist and mom based, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Working primarily in acrylic, gouache and oil, she creates paintings that capture the beauty of changing light, cast shadows and depth in landscapes often inspired by her camping adventures. Her work is rooted in nature, with a focus on playful color discovery and expressive mark making.
Krista developed her practice outside of a formal art school setting while raising her boys and working in the construction industry full time, learning through various workshops, independent study and years of experimenting with color, different materials, and subject matter. Over time, this self-directed path shaped the way she approaches materials, composition, and subject matter.
Krista’s work has been shown in smaller local venues, something she aspires to do more of. Some of her pieces are held in private collections through sales and commissions.
